Exigimos a libertação imediata de José Iván Arévalo Gómez, jovem do Povo Náhuatl injustamente detido na madrugada de 29 de agosto pela Polícia Nacional Civil (PNC), na prisão de Izalco, em El Salvador.

O companheiro é um proeminente defensor dos Direitos dos Povos Indígenas e membro da Rede de Territórios da Vida em El Salvador e do Movimento de Vítimas Afetadas por Mudanças Climáticas e Corporações (MOVIAC). A detenção de José Iván representa não apenas a violação de seus direitos humanos individuais, mas também um ataque àqueles que defendem os direitos das comunidades e os direitos dos povos.

Exigimos justiça!

Denunciamos também o estado de emergência declarado pelo governo de El Salvador desde março de 2022, que levou à suspensão de direitos constitucionais fundamentais, inclusive o direito ao devido processo legal. Mais de 79.000 pessoas foram detidas sob esse regime, muitas delas inocentes.
